All our fudges and tablets are made without artificial preservatives, so if ordering in advance check stated shelf life-once it arrives that's never an issue!

Non-alcoholic Fudges usually have a 4 week shelf-life, alcohol being a natural preservatives means a 6 month shelf-life - what an excuse!

Vaila's Fund.

Vaila Mae Harvey

I first met Vaila when she served me in a local haberdashery. She was so polite, cheerful and helpful, especially for a young teenager, that I head-hunted her on the spot. She also proved her loyalty, cheerfully turning down my offer as she would not have wanted to let her current employer down.

Some months later, I was lucky enough to expand and purchase that shop, which is now the Shetland Fudge Shop and an Art/Craft/Haberdashery shop combined. It goes without saying that we kept Vaila on staff, and although she had been diagnosed by that time, she stoically worked through her chemotherapy, always cheerful, always bright and smiling, even though we all knew she was suffering terribly somethimes. She never, ever complained, and insisted none of us made allowances for her. She worked right until she was re-admitted to hospital, where she passed away three weeks later.

I think I speak for all her friends and colleagues at the Shetland Fudge Company, when I say she was a bright spark in all our lives, and it is rare that you can truly say it has been a privilege to know someone. We try to maintain Vaila's presence around the shop still, with photos, events in her honour, competitions, and even a sponsored slim! (You have to know us to understand why that is such an achievement!) We do hope you will visit Vaila's website, and feel her presence, whether you go on to make a donation or not, as she would have loved that.
